Flat Sheets

Welcome to Flat Sheets. We are here to be your door way to finding the absolute best deals online for different types of sheets. We will do this by helping you become more educated on different types of fabrics used as well as different styles for the sheets. Knowledge is power, and if your equipped with the proper knowledge, you can make the best decision for your new sheets.

There are usually two types of sheets that is attached to the bed, a top sheet and a bottom sheet. The bottom sheet is some times known as a “fitted” sheet because as the name suggests it is fitted on to the bed so that it won’t slide of. It is fitted to the bed by using elastics that are attached to the sides of the sheet. The other type of sheet is the flat sheet.

The flat sheet is usually put on top of the “fitted” or bottom sheet. Generally flat sheets are a large rectangular sheet, sometimes square in shape. The reason people use a flat sheet is generally to make the bed more comfortable and softer. But in some countries around the world the temperatures can get quite cold and it is recommended to use a flat sheet. Flat sheets used to come only in white color. But the trends in bedding accessory changed with peoples taste and over time, multi colored flat sheets and single colored sheets are commonly used nowadays. There are several ways to measure the comfort level of sheets. The first way is to see what the “thread count” of the sheet is. It is like the pixels of a digital camera, the more threads in a given square inch then usually the more comfortable your flat sheets will be.

But if you really are a connoisseur of bedding accessory then there are more ways to check the comfort and softness level of your flat sheet. The first obvious way is to see what type of material or fabric is used in the construction of the flat sheet. The most common fabrics are cotton, linen and cotton-polyester blends. Certain types of cotton, like Egyptian cotton for example is considered to be the best variety. But if you cannot get high quality cotton, polyester-cotton blends are considered to be the softest option.

Of course if money is no object, then rare and more exotic materials are also available. Silk, rayon, and a material called bamboo fiber are available. Silk is of course famous for its comfort and softness and also good for its “warming” qualities. Bamboo fiber is also a very soft type of material. Another factor that makes for a soft and superior quality flat sheet is the weave of the cloth. This is a little trickier to figure out and it takes some experience in handling of materials to understand this. What this can also mean is that, a flat sheet that has a superior weave but may have a lower thread count can also be a soft and comfortable material.

That is why if you are a serious buyer it is always advisable to do some research before buying flat sheets. There is yet another type of flat sheet that is used in hospitals and now increasingly in hotels and that is the nonwoven polypropylene fabric which is a disposable type of fabric. After one use it can be thrown away.
